Reproduction of the painting Cascade between Chiavenna and Mount Splügen - Francis Towne

Francis Towne, master of landscape

Francis Towne, an English painter at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, stands out for his keen sense of observation and his ability to transpose nature into harmonious compositions. Influenced by travels and the English landscape school, Towne favors clarity of masses and a soft light that reveal the topography and atmosphere of the places. His works, often mistaken for landscape studies, testify to a blend of geometric rigor and poetic emotion; they have influenced many Romantic landscape painters and travelers. This art print pays tribute to his mastery of landscape and allows an exploration of Towne’s universe through a faithful painting where each nuance recalls his sense of detail and serenity.
