Louis-Isidore Duperrey, master of scientific exploration
Louis-Isidore Duperrey, a 19th-century French officer and hydrographer, was one of the great expedition leaders of the modern age of discovery, leading the scientific circumnavigation that enriched the cartography and natural history of his time. Influenced by the French naval tradition and the demands of scientific observation, Duperrey combined rigor and attention to detail; his drawings and sketches still serve as historical references. Among his contributions, hydrographic surveys and naturalist plates demonstrate meticulous precision and a curious eye. This Around the World art print pays tribute to this dual requirement, capturing the spirit of exploration and the graphic accuracy that define his work.
