Louis-Isidore Duperrey, master of scientific voyage
Louis-Isidore Duperrey, officer and explorer of the early 19th century, embodies the spirit of great scientific expeditions. Navigator and hydrographer, he contributed to mapping and understanding distant coasts, inspired by the rise of naturalist voyages of his time. His sensitivity to ethnographic and geographic details is evident in his compositions, where precise observation blends with a measured aesthetic. Influenced by the texts of his contemporaries and the importance given to surveys, Duperrey transforms the document into a lively scene; this art print of Around the World Voyage pays tribute to this balance between rigor and beauty.
