Luigi Mayer, master of the Orientalist gaze
Luigi Mayer, a 19th-century traveling painter, established himself as a keen observer of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern landscapes, blending documentation with pictorial sensitivity. Influenced by European interest in distant lands, he created meticulous views that helped shape Orientalist iconography in the West.
