John Trumbull, master of neoclassicism and historical painting
John Trumbull, a major figure in American painting of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, distinguished himself through his portraits and historical scenes that blend academic rigor with storytelling. Influenced by European neoclassical currents and the revolutionary fervor of his time, he produced works known for their documentary precision and narrative power. Among his famous works are several historical paintings immortalizing key founding episodes of the United States.
