Bordeaux by rail, illustrated by Hugo d’Alési
Large red letters announce Bordeaux above the city and the Garonne. This vintage travel poster reproduces a design by F. Hugo d’Alési for the Chemin de fer d’Orléans, dated 1896 in the French national library’s catalogue. Destination and journey share the same image.
Buildings and spires line the river, crossed by several bridges. On the left, vines laden with grapes frame the panorama and evoke Bordeaux’s wine-growing identity. The red title contrasts with the blue sky and water, while greens and yellows fill the foreground.
A city view framed by the railway journey
At the bottom, a steam locomotive appears in a separate vignette. A circular inset shows a carriage interior, while a yellow panel lists historical journey times and railway services. These inscriptions belong to the old advertisement and are not current transport information.
A plain wall in a hallway, study or living room lets the lettering and smaller scenes remain visible. Echoing a little red or blue in nearby accessories can connect the poster with the room. Check the available product options when planning your display. This is a decorative reproduction, distinct from an original antique poster.
