Immersion in hunting and movement
The Tally-ho art print by Samuel Alken Jr invites a visual journey where the clash of hooves and the momentum of riders freeze in an image of rare liveliness. This Tally-ho painting accurately captures the tension of the start, the stretched horses, and the balanced silhouettes, caught at the exact moment when the hunt begins. The canvas, faithful to the original, offers a rendering of contrasts and nuances that enhance the illusion of movement: warm lighting on the fur, deep shadows, and bright color accents on the riders' outfits. The viewer's gaze is guided from the lively foreground to the bubbling horizon of energy, creating an almost tangible sound and visual atmosphere.
Samuel Alken Jr, master of equestrian scenes
Samuel Alken Jr belongs to the great British tradition of sports and hunting artists, whose work elegantly documents aristocratic passions at the turn of the 19th century. Inspired by the dynamics of animal movement and the codes of genre painting, he composes scenes where naturalistic observation blends with dramatic staging. His representations, appreciated for their anatomical precision and storytelling sense, are part of a lineage of works that influenced enthusiasts of horse racing and wildlife landscapes. Alken Jr's interpretation confers a pictorial nobility to the subject, making each Tally-ho art print as captivating as it is authentic.
