Where the right of withdrawal applies, contact us within 14 days of delivery. Return shipping is paid by the customer and the item must be sent to the European address provided by our customer service team. Damaged, defective or incorrect items are handled at our expense.

About Plants of China, plate 28

This botanical plate belongs to Pierre-Joseph Buchoz’s Plants of China, also catalogued as Flowers of China. The Biodiversity Heritage Library dates the Paris edition to about 1776; the digitised copy is held by Dumbarton Oaks.

An eighteenth-century botanical composition

Against a pale blue ground, a large white flower outlined in pink rises above broad green leaves with light veins. Stems, curled plant forms and two circular sections complete the study. A yellow, white and black triple border frames the composition like a cabinet plate.

Chinese models and European publishing

The catalogue notes that the series copied Chinese drawings and often combined plants with coloured grounds and landscape elements. This plate therefore reflects the circulation of botanical and decorative models in eighteenth-century Europe.
