Cephalus punished by the hunt : une reproduction mythologique en plein élan
Dans "Cephalus punished by the hunt", Bernardino Luini captures a moment of dramatic tension where the mythological hero faces the anger of the nymphs. The composition is dynamic, with figures in motion that seem to surge out of the painting. The vivid colors and delicate skin tones of the figures contrast with the darker hues of the surrounding forest, creating an atmosphere that is both vibrant and tragic. Luini’s technique, characterized by a skilful use of light and shadow, brings the characters’ emotions to life, making the scene almost tangible.
Bernardino Luini : a master of the Lombard Renaissance
Bernardino Luini, active in the 16th century, is often considered one of the greatest painters of the Lombard Renaissance. Influenced by Leonardo da Vinci, his style stands out for the delicacy in his rendering of faces and his particular attention to details. Luini managed to incorporate elements of mythology into his works, as shown by this depiction of Cephalus. Although less well known than that of some of his contemporaries, his work had a significant impact on the art of his time, blending tradition and innovation in a harmonious way.
