Mountain Crayfish and Sea Eel, Plate XLV – after Samuel Fallours
This hand-coloured plate brings together a large crayfish in green, yellow, pink and blue, a separately depicted cluster of eggs, and a long brown eel marked with pink bands and blue dots.
The sheet is numbered XLV and contains figures 187 to 189. Its historical captions name a “Mountain Crayfish”, the crayfish’s eggs and a “Sea Eel”. They place the specimens at Loewen; these historical labels are not presented as modern zoological identifications.
The plate belongs to the second volume of Fishes, Crayfishes and Crabs, based on Adriaen van der Stel’s collections and drawings made in Ambon by Samuel Fallours. Louis Renard compiled and published the work in Amsterdam; he was not the direct draughtsman of this sheet. This reproduction follows the 1754 edition.

Our frames measure 1.7 cm on each side. For a 40x60 cm painting, the total framed size is therefore 43.4 x 63.4 cm.
Canvas 100% polyester (285 g/m²), UV-resistant and solvent-free inks, safe for children and allergy sufferers. The canvases are mounted on a 2 cm thick wooden frame (4 cm for very large formats).
