The poetry of a ceramic decor: Design for ceramic decoration on a plate with a landscape, enhanced by Theo Colenbrander
The scene depicts a stylized landscape where sinuous lines and color blocks dialogue with modern sobriety. The color palette emphasizes contrasting earthy tones with brighter accents, creating a sense of controlled space and restrained movement. The technique resembles decorative work in art ceramics, where the motif follows the shape of the plate to produce an integrated and refined composition. The overall atmosphere is both familiar and decidedly contemporary, ideal for those seeking a piece that is both graphic and warm.
Theo Colenbrander, master of decorative renewal
Theo Colenbrander is recognized as one of the pioneers of renewal in applied arts in the Netherlands at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. Designer and ceramicist, he revitalized traditional codes by introducing free forms, abstract motifs, and a keen sense of color, influencing the production of artistic ceramics across Europe. His work reflects a desire to unify aesthetics and functionality, and his creations are cited among the milestones that prefigure Art Nouveau and modern design. This art print pays tribute to his graphic boldness and lasting impact on utilitarian decor.
