Louis-Isidore Duperrey, master of pictorial exploration
The art of Louis-Isidore Duperrey is rooted both in the tradition of the great 19th-century scientific expeditions and in a landscape sensibility attentive to natural phenomena. Navigator and draftsman, Duperrey traveled the seas and recorded his observations with precision, influenced by travel chronicles and maritime illustration collections of his time. His works stand out for the rigor of the line and the truth of the colors, reminiscent of contemporaries who blended science and aesthetics. This Voyage around the World art print pays tribute to his documentary and pictorial work, offering a glimpse of horizons drawn by an artist witness to oceanic routes.
