Surprise on the Telephone – Retro Pop Art Print

A telephone conversation in a pop art close-up

Wide eyes, parted red lips and a dark green receiver give Surprise on the Telephone its expressive character. This retro pop art print shows a blonde woman in a tightly cropped portrait. One hand holds the telephone to her ear while the other rests against her cheek. The gestures make the everyday scene feel theatrical.

There is no dialogue to explain her reaction. Instead, the raised eyebrows and open mouth invite you to imagine the conversation. The image leaves its story open, with the face carrying the drama.

Bold colour with a vintage graphic effect

Yellow curls stand out against a blue and turquoise background. Thick black outlines and hatching define the face, hair and receiver, recalling the visual language of comics. Pale scratches and marks form part of the printed design; they are a visual ageing effect rather than damage to the print.

A light wall gives the colours room to stand out in a living room, study or reading corner. Echoing a little yellow or blue in nearby accessories can connect the portrait with the room. Check the available sizes and options before choosing your arrangement.

Pair it with other prints from the same collection

Build a portrait pairing with Rouge à Lèvres, or introduce a summery subject with Douceur d’Été. Both belong to the same Pop Art collection and offer companion subjects for a gallery wall.
