It belongs to Les Voix fantaisistes, an advertising series built around situations in which the voice is tested or used. Glottyl was promoted for sore throats, tracheitis and laryngitis.

Touchet draws on the “frozen words” episode in chapter LVI of François Rabelais’s Fourth Book. On a ship’s deck, five figures watch coloured words thaw and become audible; “GLOTTYL” rises from one character’s hand. The heading and lower caption reproduce the historical French spelling of Rabelais’s text, including “motz de gueule” and “motz de sinople.” The deck, rigging, sea and multicoloured fragments turn the literary passage into a visual play on speech and the human voice.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0773/1707/9365/files/glottyl-4_eba9abe0-6434-4b59-8b7d-d0ef04340ca2.webp?v=1771062132
