This remarkable photograph shows an American Jeep stopped in front of a house at 6 Robert Le Magnifique Street in Cerisy-la-Forêt (Manche). Three soldiers are seated in the vehicle: two GIs belonging to the 2nd US Infantry Division and a French liaison officer equipped with a Sten submachine gun, recognizable by his British uniform and his rank of sergeant or second lieutenant. A group of twelve civilians, including women and children, proudly poses in front of the house, witnessing the liberation of the region during the Second World War.
